Food Diary – June 24, 2011 – and… Swedish Midsummer (apologies for deviation from science)

Midsummer is an actual holiday that is gleefully celebrated in Sweden, with lots of shellfish, herring and potatoes, berries and cream, and ‘snaps’. The key element however, is good company. Personally, I left my good company when I left work, but I did stop by the supermarket, tiredly, on my way home, to see what I could find…

Friday = feast day. No? Fine.

breakfast24
Fruit'n'fibre cereal with semi-skimmed milk.

Forgot to prepare lunch.

breakfast24b
Provisions for morning-in-office: Milky Earl Grey and a banana.

No breakfast complete without extras.

snack24
Imitation Twix.

Tea just isn’t the same.

drink24
Coffeeh.

Shop bought sandwich. Not bad, actually.

lunch24
Chicken salad sandwich on malted, grainy bread.

Nice and polished.

snack24b
Apple.

Then, I went on a field trip, my first, from my desk to the office biscuit tin. Perhaps I will bake something for it someday.

snack24c
Syrup biscuit.

Unfortunately, I got more biscuit cravings as a result.

snack24d
Brownie biscuits.

Then, dinner!

dinner24
Miscellaneous steamed shellfish. With, er, malt vinegar. And back olives, obviously.

I know the margarine looks rank, but those muffins are so good!

dinner24b
Severely buttered oven bottom muffin.

Then, improv-dessert. Amazing.

dinner24c
Dessert buns, diced and toasted, with whipped cream and raspberries.

Water count: ~1.75l. I did sneak some olives just before bedtime.

Food Diary – June 10, 2011

New attempt to make sure I take in enough water throughout the day.

drink11
Various waters and squashes.

Being really hungry for breakfast.

breakfast10
Mug of coffee, nectarine, two slices of cheese and tomato puree on toast.

And before lunch.

snack10
Fruit and liquorice gums. Again. (Too tasty.)

And not so much at lunch.

lunch10
Toasted pitta bread with tomatoey chestnut mushrooms and German sausage.

Now, I have stayed away from these for some time now, because I am capable for wolfing a whole 200g packet in one go.

snack10b
Chocolate raisins. Might as well admit that I had about twice as much, but couldn't be bothered taking a photo.

I know that my oven tends to the hot side. Why do I not follow my instincts?

dinner10
Overcooked cheese and tomato pizza with extra cheese and tomato.

True Scandinavian dinner drink.

drink10b
Two chugs of milk. What a life I have! (Detect the sarcasm.)

Plus a bit of a pre-bed snack. Even thought it is bad for me.

snack10c
Weakness for midnight snacks: Milk and waffles.

Water count: ~1.5l. Nearly.

Food Diary – June 9, 2011

Does anybody consume protein powder? Is it “good” (however we can classify that)? Is it only for those who wish to build muscle or is it generally good to drink after exercise? Or am I okay with yoghurt and/or eggs? Thankful for answers.

Had to get up really early this day, and was hungrier than usual. Is this because I had to replenish the energy I did NOT get via sleep?

breakfast09
Coffee and two slices of seeded, margarine-d toast.

The following has become a regular mid-morning snack.

snack09
Liquorice and fruit gums.

This too, but not for much longer.

snack09b
The last slice of white chocolate and raspberry cake!

Thrown-together lunch. I need to start planning my meals.

lunch09
Couscous, peas, chilli beans, fish fingers and sweet chilli sauce.

Mid-afternoon coffee break.

drink09
Earl Grey.

Also known as “fika” in Swedish.

snack09c
What it says on the 'tin'.

Thrown-together dinner. I really did not want to cook today.

dinner09
Eggy wholewheat pasta with chilli beans, basil, and slightly too much paprika.

Water count ~1.5l. Back on track.

In other news. I have writer’s block on my other blog. Anybody have good advice about that? Thankful, as always, for answers. (That should be my lifetime signature.)

Food Diary – June 8, 2011

breakfast08
Mug of coffee; two wheat biscuits with lots of Greek yoghurt and a liberal drizzle of golden syrup.

As you can tell – I have fallen a little bit behind, so we will jump straight in with pictures.

snack08
Post-exercise banana.

I seem to consume more junk after running, as though it is an excuse. Need to stop.

snack08b
Liquorice and fruit gums. (I have nearly finished them, do not despair.)

My “old food” issues seem now to have shifted from fruit to eggs. Creativity (sense the irony) ensues.

lunch08
Margerine-d seeded toast, friend egg. Two of each.

New fruit!

lunch08b
Nectarine.

I swear I have become re-addicted to cake.

snack08c
Mug of tea and slice of cake. I could get used to this.

More junk.

snack08d
I said Nearly finished.

I appear to have taken up the eat little and often approach. Did I use to do this in November?

dinner08
Cajun spiced sausages, broccoli, ketchup.

Water count: ~1.2l. I thought about posting as soon I had taken each picture, to give myself a better impression of when I eat what I eat, but I think one “picspam” a day is enough. To save all of YOU.

Addendum. Forgot about this.

snack
Nostalgia.
Home-baked bread and home-grown vegetables 2

Home-baked bread and home-grown vegetables 2

The plants look a little bit wilted. Yesterday they were still growing nicely. Is this what the new British government will bring us? Okay, I shall not take it out completely on politics; I planted the crops outside during a nice warm spell around a week ago, and last night we had sudden chill. It may be time to buy seeds and clear out the greenhouse to provide a certain, warm climate for the vegetables.

Rather devastated, but determined to try a rescue mission. The cucumber, which is planted in the ground, I will put an upside-down de-topped 2 litre bottle on top; and I shall cling film the top of the pot holding the tomato. At least it is lovely and sunny today. Hopefully there will be some progress later!
